How good you are...

... The small text (in Polish) translates as "How good you are;" the larger text, "Fields of Hope," also appropriate, although I think the sign was encouraging people to donate to a hospice!

Anyway, it made me think of all the good things that people are doing with Ukranian refugees, both big and small:
The Polish government - for taking in about 3 million refugees and providing free accommodation for 8 weeks.
Krakow city council for paying for rental of the area of the tents in the city square, charged an astronomical rent by the huge Galleria Krakowska shopping mall. We learned today that the tents will stay until the end of May, which corresponds with our extended departure date.
The volunteers who work in the tents and elsewhere, of all ages and nationalities, including refugees themselves. We now know about "World Central Kitchen," which provides huge quantities of good, cooked food in situations of conflict around the world. A 13-year-old American girl has been here with her mother for 2 weeks and has been brave enough to stand on a chair every day in the food tent and play the Ukrainian national anthem.
The sponsor families who show such patience and understanding with a system that actually promotes friction.

Today we spoke to more families and potential sponsors about decisions still to be made. A decision that had been postponed was made - for a mother and daughter to move to a welcoming family in Shaftesbury. We're not sure how, but we are involved in establishing a Ukranian community in Dorset now, as well as Lancashire.

We're also not quite sure how it happened, but this evening we were treated to dinner at the Sheraton by another Bob, who is here to see how the UK sponsorship scheme is working in practice and if he can provide any additional support. We trundled a suitcase of yo-yos and slinkys back home along the river!
