Overcome with tiredness
So we come home from another day where English lessons are done, many stories are told, endless apples are chopped, bananas cut, oranges quartered and then unbelievably, we are contacted by a woman trying to get out of Kharkiv who had heard that we can help refugees fleeing the war. All day messages flowing backwards an forwards. Mother and daughter fleeing. Wanting safety. Not having any clear idea as to how long it will take to get out and to safety. The sponsor in England straight onto a visa application.... problem....the child's passport has run out, so yes let's add more stress to the girl by making her go to a visa application centre, or hours long queue and a wait at the overwhelmed Ukrainian consolate, people trying desperately to get new documents. May someone or something protect them on their perilous journey.
All this whilst trying to help another mother and son find a sponsor. And
Finally to a community centre that is opening, to see if I can do my English lessons there without a charge for the room. Our current one costs £15/day which we don't have. And neither do the students.
And so we make our way home, shower, supper, more work.
And then the good news which makes you get up and do it all over again. After much support and time and discussion, a woman, so conflicted, manages to make the decision of a different life in Engand.
And tomorrow we'll do it all again.
