A hard job made even harder...

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/may/08/hundreds-of-ukrainian-refugees-removed-from-uks-unsuitable-housing-sponsors

If you have time please read this article. Out of 19000 refugees that have arrived in England under the Homes for Ukraine scheme, 600 have been found to be in potentially abusive situations and have had to be moved. Appalling, that people who have already been abused by Putin, are further abused. Does not make for easy reading. And this has now made the rounds here I Krakow. What do people think?

However, the flip side of this is that the checks ultimately work. But not good. I think that we are not the only country where difficulties exist. We steer everyone away from Facebook and ask people to use the government's Reset scheme (which has it's own difficulties) or registered charitable organizations.

On a personal level, visa applications continue to be a proverbial pain. We think that once in England, the situation can be a very positive one, but the friction of the process and it's inherent dangers make the scheme less than ideal. We will continue to make it as safe and positive. Some nights when we get back at the end of the day, it can be quite dispiriting. But again, no matter how bad our day, it's nothing compared to the refugees. And tomorrow is another day.

The person in this photo won't be known to many people. General Anders, a Polish general who led the Poles as they fought there way though Italy with the allies in WW2. My dad fought with him in Italy against the Hitler fascist regime.  A famous battle at Monte Cassino. And now another country fights a war against an oppressor.
