Day off of a sort...

We started the day exploring the market near our new bedsit. Bob was wearing his Ukrainian Sponsorship Pathway UK (USPUK) t-shirt, which is the organisation we'll be working with from Monday - in a large refugee centre in a disused shopping mall. The Ukraine-UK link on the T-shirt is obvious and, on our way home, we were approached by a Ukrainian family wishing to move to the UK.

On our next trip out a Ukrainian woman with a young girl and a baby asked for help to find their new accommodation in Krakow (refugees often have to move on). She was completely lost as some of the tramlines in Krakow  are being repaired and trams are going in different directions from usual. Bob has become an expert in the tram network, and so we diverted from our route to the national museum to point the family in the right direction.

We've decided that one of us will always wear the USPUK t-shirt when we're out and about.

We didn't go to the museum as we found out that entry is free on Tuesday!

We found yet another green space (Krakow has so many) and came across a little gathering of "Europe for Ukraine" - stands with lots of stickers, badges and information sheets - not really sure how much that will help the awful situation in Ukraine.

There is a lot of talk about the 9th of May, commemoration day of Russia's victory over Nazi Germany in 1945 (how ironic!), and what Putin has planned for this day of national celebration. At the very least, if Mariupol has fallen by then, there may be a military parade in what remains of the city, which would be obscene enough, but it could be far worse. It will not be a good day for any of the volunteers who take relief supplies travel across the border to travel.

At the end of the day we went for a beer in our favourite square (no far right demonstration today!) and met a couple of British volunteers with Ambulance Aid, a charity that has been set up to provide Ukraine with ambulances, supplies, etc. Like many of us, trying to do something...
