There goes another $50 million of plane gone....
Below is a picture of a piece of a Russian fighter plane shot down near to Lviv. This as the Guardian newspaper might say, cannot be verified at this moment in time, but let's hope it's true.
So today was just a day of making contacts and building up a network of people who know what we are trying to do, and seeing if there can be mutual cooperation improving the situations of refugees.
We even attended a meeting of the movers and shakers of very large international organizations. They no doubt looked at us and thought we were probably in need of assistance. But we did make useful contacts.
Many Ukrainians are now returning from Europe, back to Ukraine, and finding that the situation here in Lviv is far from easy, given the stretch on resources here.
This though for many refugees is the right decision. This plus the Ukrainians coming from the east puts considerable pressure on the city.
We visited a refugee centre today, where knives are confiscated before admittance. The collection was mind blowing.
It has been calm in Lviv today following all the air raid sirens going ofyesterday. We were able to sleep through the night, which was desperately needed.
However, we continue to see things that remind us that war is here. We passed a train that had blackout curtains/covers. Monuments and statues have protection against bomb blast.
And we saw a tank racing through a field, not 200 meters from us.
We also had time first thing, to visit our local market....filled with such fresh in season vegetables. No prepackage veg here.
Finally the evening was spent with a Ukranian family whose lives have crossed with ours. They gave us a wonderful supper and shared their home
They took us to the Lviv famous coffee mine, where they have been excavating/mining coffee for years. You have to see it to believe. And the coffee is delicious.
