A lift from Lviv to Krakow...
...with Shaun, who we met in the university cafeteria at Striskyi Park in Lviv. Shaun is one of the good guys. He has a family and business in mid-Wales, and founded UK4UA at the beginning of the war in Ukraine as he felt that he had to do something to help. UK4UA is a small organisation that does exactly what it says on the van. Shaun has been making trips to Ukraine for the past 5 months, ensuring that aid goes to the places it's most needed, which involves a lot of trouble shooting, and encouragement of disparate individuals and organisations to work together.
After he had dropped us in Krakow at about 6pm, Shaun was planning to drive to Berlin. From there he will go on to Hamburg, to arrange for the testing of tourniquets destined for the front line, to ensure that they are fit for purpose.
As with other aid agencies, Shaun says that donations are drying up, to the extent that he may have to wind up his organisation. He said that the cost of repairs to his van, alone, will cost £900. He has been really supportive of us and we wish him, his volunteers and family well.
As for us, we are back with our lovely friends in semi-countryside near Krakow for the next 3 days. We miss Lviv already, but, although it's very hot, the air is fresh it's quiet (no sirens!) and stars are visible in the night sky.
