An inconsequential day.....
as we thought not a lot to do today....We had nothing specially planned. And yet we had so much to do.
We know that going to buy our fruit and vegetables in the local market doesn't count for anything...and yet the smiles and friendship of us being here seems to be so important to the market holders. Unquantifiable.
And then trying to get a suspicious donor and recipient of humanitarian aid to actually speak to each other was harder than envisaged. As this is a country at war, suspicion is high and you have to work hard to gain trust.
And then there are things you can never account for. We have a 76 year old mother and disabled daughter waiting to apply for their visas to go to England. Probably due to the environment in the refugee centre, their health has been severely compromised.
Every day seems to throw up something unexpected. Today, at 9pm here, Fiona was contacted by a teacher in Park High School, Colne, regarding the children in our home. She wanted to let us know how well they are doing, how they have touched her heart and how honoured she feels to have this opportunity. It is moments like these that absolutely lift our spirits - someone we don't know who makes contact and then who knows where that will lead? We'll work on that tomorrow.
As well as this, I had individuals contracting me about their situations. Often we have no words to match their needs but can only be here to listen and, if we can, give gentle solace. As ever.
