Being and not being in Moldova - and aid to an orphanage

Because the Russians destroyed a bridge from one side of an inlet to another, southwest of Odesa, there is an area of Ukraine along the Moldovan border that would be cut off - if not for a 6 km piece of land that Moldova ceded to the Ukrainians to  enable them to transit without control from the Moldovan side. Hence, we were in Moldova but not in Moldova!

It was a small town in this part of Ukraine that we tried to get to yesterday, but the checkpoint queue was too long - to an orphanage that is difficult to access and virtually forgotten, therefore much in need of aid.

Although all that we took was welcomed, including food, clothes and toys, they are really in need of 'white goods,' including freezer, washing machine, microwave, kettle, etc, that we will try to obtain. This orphanage began when hostilities were initiated by Russia in 2014. The organiser said that she has looked after children who have grown up having known only conflict.

One of the children, Yeva (Eve), in the green dress, had her 4th birthday today.
As we travel through Ukraine, we often see the world of a bygone era.
