A flat tyre on an aid van could be quite dispiriting....
but not so much here.... having told various volunteers in Kyiv of our difficulties, at 8:30 we found people willing to help. A tyre repair man, quickly and efficiently put on the spare tyre. It really would have been impossible for us to do, as we could find no jack!! And the spare wheel holder had practically rusted solid. The spare wheel.....the least said, the better. Still all this was done quickly and with good humour.
We went immediately to drop off the aid to the women coordinating the distribution of aid to some 200 families. All the aid came through UK4UA, a Welsh based organisation, in cooperation with other Welsh voluntary organisations. There was much good aid given, but mention must be made of the so called ""Trauma Teddies." Beautiful hand made creations.
Then to a tyre place to buy two tyres. Don't think quickfit.....more a large hut stacked with second hand tyres. Again all work really quickly done. There was a small gentle moment there, when the tyre man said that he had never seen or spoken to an English person before, in person, and thought it strange that it happened.
Then a hard drive to the southwest of Kyiv from the northwest of Kyiv. You can't believe the traffic. Factor in roadblocks as well and it was hard work. We went there to collect 10 further stoves on behalf of a Polish organisation. This done, we started the long journey back to Lviv. We couldn't make it all the way.....got as far as Rivne, both really exhausted, but nevertheless happy with such a productive day.
