In the dark in Odesa...
Many kilometres covered to get to Odesa, relatively uneventful except for information we kept receiving....no electricity at all in Kherson, more people killed in bombings.
We arrived in Odesa at the place we are staying, and about 30 minutes later, at 17:30, the lights went out. Fiona asked George, "When is the electricity likely to come back on?" He responded, "Sometime tomorrow morning."
We spent some time planning and preparing for tomorrow's aid run to villages east of Mykolaiv. The main road to this area has had all its bridges blown up and is impassable. We will have the services of a local person to find the way. Some of the country roads are still mined. Afterwards, we have arranged to stay locally with a woman who is very involved in supporting the soldiers on the front line....and that really is not that far.
We have sorted out the 20 stoves that our Polish organisation bought. They will be given to the civilian population in the destroyed villages. Hopefully used as a central warming place. We have looked ahead at the weather forecast for next week....not good.
We are also trying to find a solution for a man with advanced MS who has been offered care in Krakow. He lives in Zaporizhzhia, the other end of Ukraine from Poland. How to get him to Krakow? We have contacted some people we know.... hopefully we will find a solution that does not require someone from Poland going all the way there to collect him.
