Aid collection.....
Some days or weeks don't pan out as you intend....we hoped that this week would be an easier week in order for me especially to recover from our covid episodes. So having got back yesterday from Kyiv, today we went to Krakow to collect aid. One, it's a long journey in it's own right distance wise, but throw in the fact that there's a very time consuming border crossing and it makes for a very long day. We had planned to stay overnight in Krakow, but as I was not feeling too good, still some covid related symptoms, we decided to come home after picking up the aid. We arrived back home at 10pm, having started this morning at 07:00.
Still it's done and we collected some really useful aid, which will be delivered next week. The big sacks have individually wrapped new blankets in then.
We also have been sent some pictures of the last aid drop completed by Tomasz and Wlodek. Tomasz is the bearded guy in the photo above. Taking really important aid to places in desperate need, including generators, solar powered inverters to provide power.....these places have absolutely no electricity or gas, so this is invaluable. They also have no running water and have to rely on a deep well for water. Generators are also good, but the nearest garage is about 50 miles away and due to the state of the roads it takes 3 hours to get there. The gas propane bottles with attached cooking top are also a top priority. At least they can cook some hot food.
People are just about surviving in these conditions. They are regularly shelled. The residents say that it's worst when the sun is shining and there is a clear sky. When that happens the Russians send drones over the villages and drop granade type explosives. A man was killed in his garden just the other day.
But they say...." We don't want to leave, this is our home, our community." Says it all really.
