Little did we think when we left Trawden on 20th March 2022
that we would be here a year later. We arrived in Krakow with the vaguest of ideas about what we were going to do and whether we would be of any use.
It took us some time to find our feet and get stuck into the work.
That first period in Krakow was exhausting, often working 12 hour days, shared between working in the food tent and, at the time, on the very busy Homes for Ukraine scheme. It was also bitterly cold. Every day we would see thousands of refugees, coming through the main train and bus stations in Krakow. The food tent was open 24/7 and would serve up to 20,000 hot meals a day.
The sight of these refugees was heartbreaking. People escaping and leaving everything behind. Maybe a couple of bags each at most.
We realise that there is no way we can encompass our experiences in this one blog. And we don't want to just repeat what we have already described.
We will let photos describe our journey over 1 year. The photos of a country invaded illegally on the whim of a delusional dictator.
This was the day we departed from Trawden......
These photos can't capture everything that we have seen...nor all the people we have met: at best, a snapshot.
But I want to finish with a photo of light and hope for the future, which we passed today in Kyiv.
