Packed and ready to go

The last boxes to go in this morning contained books from the Welcome Bookstore, Lviv, purchased with a donation made on behalf of a little English schoolgirl. The books are destined for a village school in Chernihiv region, which takes students from surrounding villages where schools have been bombed. The book shop owner was kind enough to donate a box of books in Ukrainian for the school library. The school has very little and the English teacher is really excited to be receiving so many books.
Our mission to provide English language books was given an added impetus today, as we learned that the Ukrainian government does not provide schools with foreign language text books. If children want to learn a foreign language, like English or German, their parents have to buy the books - if they can afford it.

At lunchtime I walked, and Bob (still suffering from post -COVID breathlessness) took the tram, to Striskyi Park. We had lunch in the Catholic University cafeteria with an Australian donor of, primarily, medical aid, who, we discovered, has been visiting Ukraine for the past 10 years and teaching public health at the university, voluntarily. Each of us volunteers has our own different reason for being here and hers is a very interesting one. She gave us food for thought regarding 'endings' in helping Ukraine and how they can lead to new 'beginnings.'
