Back in Krakow.....
Today we are back in Krakow, visiting our Polish colleagues and filling the van with aid. Tomorrow we set off on our journey back to Kherson. We have some excellent aid to deliver already, and will be collecting more on our way. As ever it's hot work. But everyone just gets on with it.
As ever, many people are involved in making this possible, from the kindness of donors, to people who let us use the van, to those that service them and keep them on the road. The loaders and unloaders.
The loading team.
But most importantly, we are able to take this to civilians who are regularly at risk from being killed for the simple reason that they are Ukrainians. And in Putin's mind this is enough reason.
We were able to pass through Krakow today. We passed our first hostel room where we stayed when we first came to Krakow in March last year. We remembered what a dingy, miserable souless room it was. At that time we worked in a refugee tent. We came with the idea of staying a few weeks. Look how that worked out.
Just as a footnote. Fiona once more, extends her criminal record here in Ukraine, to add to her speeding fine. Because of logistics, Fi inadvertantly overstayed her permitted time allowed in Ukraine, before being required to leave, by 4 days. This was duly noted by a border guard.
The chief border officer had to be called, and we had to wait to see if Fi would be fined. Much time passed. The chief border guard arrived, complete with a sheaf of papers, asking Fi to sign. She then handed the papers to Fi, which basically said she had broken the law. And that Fiona was remorseful for having done so. No fine. And there was no anger. A process completed.
And she left us with the words, "Thank you for all that you do for Ukraine," with a smile on her face.
As I would say....you can't make it up.
