500 days

... since the full-scale illegal invasion of Russia.  The latest United Nations data confirms that, since the beginning of hostilities against Ukraine, over 9,000 civilians, including more than 500 children, have died. However, the true figures are likely to be much higher.

Then there are the unknown tens of thousands of soldiers who have been killed, many still in their teens.

The UNHCR estimates that there are 5,914,000 internally displaced people in Ukraine. Nearly 8 million refugees from Ukraine have been recorded in neighboring countries and across Europe.

On 8 June the World Bank analysis of damage to Ukraine’s infrastructure and buildings estimated that it would cost $411bn to rebuild Ukraine’s economy after Russia’s invasion. Add to this, the social, economic and environmental impact from the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam.

And so it continues - more deaths of civilians and soldiers will be added to this tally today.

This afternoon, Bob went to see a doctor regarding his back and had the usual very thorough examination, again without charge - medication given to see if it improves.

Meanwhile, I helped a woman from Odesa to complete a visa application for England - her daughter is the sponsor.

Earlier today, I explored our local Odesa area a little more and passed some interesting street art...

Bob's comment at the end:
On the way back from my doctor's appointment, as I got on the tram, I sat next to a soldier recruit. Younger than our son, Sam. With two kit bags, he got off at the railway station stop. People shaking his hand and wishing him well. A sad poignant moment - of the sacrifices made here. Someone's son. The love of many people's lives. We wish him safe passage. Слава Україні.
