The fight goes on
It was always thought that Lviv was a relatively safe place. Today's attack shows that nowhere is safe from the killers in Moscow. When I looked at the pictures of the destruction as they filtered through this morning, I'm astonished that there were not more deaths. But very thankful. There seems to be no end to Russia's obsessive madness in trying to inflict harm and pain on Ukraine.
On a different subject I am slowly melting. In the sunshine today it was 42°C.
Hotter still in Kherson. I try to conjure up in my mind the -30°C of a winter's night in Kharkiv last year. Doesn't help.
We went to the UNICEF tent today, but not many children there. Far too hot. Reflects some of the challenges we had in Stryiskyi Park in Lviv last year.
However, we were able to do one song, Tom Paxton's "Going to the zoo tomorrow."
It was good having the backing vocalist.
We are having to postpone our next aid run. Whatever I've done to my back is not good. Hopefully, a few days not bouncing down the Odesa to Mykolaiv road will help. In any case, I think that the heat in the cab would be unbearable.
And the heat won't help in other ways. There are already deep ruts in the road, made by the weight of the lorries pressing into the tarmac, where it has melted previously. Just another thing to contend with.
Finally, a thought for the soldiers. In this heat, with their body armour and helmets. Even in these conditions, the fight goes on. May they remain safe.
