It's been a stay in Kherson.
A city like no other city. The streets are very empty. Bomb shelters everywhere Yes, people go and shop, and cars are on the road, but in very small numbers. The first photo is of the main city street at lunchtime. And at night the sound of artillery fire continues.....there are many broken nights for some.
Also the children are gone. The children don't by and large seem to play outside.and even if they did, the state of the playgrounds leave much to be desired, look at the photo of the see saw....spot the challenge. And the autumnal weather has been brilliant. So even sadder that they are not out. The children I've met have told me how they loved to swim in the Dnipro river. A thing of the past.
All school lessons are online, so again no chance to interact. First COVID, then the war. A childhood taken away.
Today I was able to do 3 lessons in the different UNICEF centres. They were a lot of fun. The children are amazing. So open to learn new things, and enjoy the games we played. It's always sad to leave them.
Fiona returned to Krakow today to collect a car which she will bring to Odesa, to help transport more aid. It will be a long journey.
