Homeless animals of Kherson
This is the second blog today, again concerning the weekend's aid run to Kherson. There wasn't enough room in the last blog to do this topic justice.
We sometimes receive specific donations for dogs and cats, who have lost owners/homes due to the war. We make sure that this money goes directly to people who look after these animals.
On Saturday morning we met Vlada, who has turned her home into a shelter for homeless dogs and cats. She came to collect several bags of dried food from us on Saturday morning, in Kherson. The area in which Vlada lived was being shelled at the time and she was visibly distressed. She said that the animals are her 'kids.'
She described Liza, from an area in Kherson that was flooded when the Nova Kakhovka dam was blown up - now she is afraid all the time...
And Tyzik, a big, older German Shepherd, found last December, very thin and ill...
And many others...
Vlafa told us, later, that all the animals were OK after the day's shelling.
Vlada has a Facebook page and sent a video, both of which I can share if anyone would like to contact me (Fiona). In the video, she talks about the importance of vaccination, and also, sterilisation for cats and dogs, which is free in Kherson.
The title photo and the one below are edited 'stills' from the video:
