More goodbyes...

Today we took the now fairly battered van, "Bohdan," to the Mitsubishi garage in Odesa, where the wonderful owner, Alex, said that his mechanics would fix the van's problems for free. He also took us for lunch in the garage's family-run canteen, which serves lovely homemade food, including Bulgarian bread, as this is where the family originally came from. The employees here have really good working conditions, although there's a constant worry that the younger, fit males will be drafted to fight in the war - when they're working they're visible, and therefore a target.

Alex is yet another friend we have made here - who goes out of his way to support what we do. He even had one of his drivers take us back.

Bohdan will stay at the Mitsubishi garage until at least one of us returns, and so this is only a temporary goodbye.

We'll drive to Krakow in the Audi, parked behind Bohdan. This has been our parking space for the past 5 months, a stone's throw from the historical  building (the green one in the photo below) that was hit by a missile, on the same terrible night that the city's main cathedral was bombed - a reminder of how close we came to danger.
In our time here we have met so many people, strangers who became friends, and entered our hearts. The ones that have made a difference and continue to do so. We leave, but we don't forget.
