Fruit Bar

Fruit Bar!!

Most of the day was spent in the food tent. 20,000 meals were served, with a multi national team of volunteers....who all worked so quietly and with good humour to get the meals out. There is still a sense of disbelief in the faces of those lining up for food. Various pictures of the food tent preparing for the day, (calm before the storm),the initial shopping at the warehouse, to action stations. The picture of Fiona preparing bags of washing powder, as most refugees have no access to washing machines and have to wash items by hand.

The clothes tent is so hard to work in...so hot and so crowded when it gets going... trying to sort out the good stuff from the bad takes ages. The queue is massive.

I was on the fruit section....if I never see fruit salad again it will be too soon. All the fruit is freshly cut. Fi prepared apples for 3 hours!
The afternoon was spent with Ukrainians who might want to come to England. We have had a large response from the Durham area. This matching process takes a lot of time and is very emotional and draining.
Still the day is done.... tomorrow we will be there again.... doing what we can.
