The sadness of others...
The next bit involved a demonstration, looking for more support for Ukrainians fighting the war. We may have made a good contact there.
The final bit was the saddest. At the station, a transit refugee centre. Women and small children bewildered by the events that have befallen them....a young girl being fed by her mother from a tin can. Others sat forlornly on the beds. We bought baby food, sanitary products, small packets of biscuits, juice and pet food, some of the items requested. A small dog moved around the campbed. A young girl arrived, crying, desperate for the toilet.
We made some very good contacts and will return tomorrow, to try and move forward on the HomesforUkraine government initiative, although as has been previously mentioned it seems to have been poorly thought through. But we will try our hardest to make it work.
Tomorrow we will return, this time buying different items they have asked for.
Good to hear you've arrived safe and making headway from the off.
