April Fool....
April Fool's day.....when I look at the government's website saying that they are welcoming Ukrainian refugees I just want to shout with rage. Another layer to the process has been revealed. All rooms offered will have to be approved by the council. Apparently, the sponsor has to contact the council to have their room approved. We will confirm this ASAP. How long will the check take? And still the refugees wait. Here in the snow. A more time consuming, laborious, bureaucratic process could not have been made. The government does not seem to have any idea about the challenges these refugees have.
Tried to describe how awful the reality of the visa scheme was on radio Lancashire at 08:08. Have a listen if you have a moment.
We had a bit of a mini break today. Caught up with admin, walked in the snow flurries. Managed to find a laundry, as we don't have a washing machine and were down to the last few pairs of unmentionables.
I went into the tent again today. Again got interest from people.e including a surgeon, who happened to be in Poland when the war broke out. He showed me a picture of his house, a before and after picture...a nice house in the first picture. No house in the second, gone, obliterated, destroyed, just a bit of the back wall still standing. Vitaly is trying to make sense of what's happening. He bursts into tears. He asks " what do I do "........he says he will help to spread the news of the scheme. Given it's complexity, I'm worried that many will give up, both sponsors and/or guests. At this end we will try not to let that happen. Tomorrow is another day....
Keep going, keep pushing, stay strong.
