Communities destroyed and new communities started
The photo is of a painting that was given to Bob as a birthday present by a young woman who travelled with her sister to Barrowford today. Kharkiv is Ukraine’s second-largest city and has been under sustained Russian attack since the beginning of the war, but this cathedral remains.
A random meeting occurred today, in front of the huge shopping centre opposite the tents: a mother and young daughter who are still waiting for their visas after 5 weeks, another mother and teenage daughter who will be travelling to Dorset in a week, a mother and teenage son who we put in contact with a sponsor today (and Bob and I). All of these people have made positive connections because of us, which is a good feeling and the difference between Facebook and us.
I thought it would be good to give an update on Ukrainians who have travelled to England or have travel dates:
Family of 3 settled in Trawden on 10 April.
Mother and son in Blacko on 26 April.
Single young woman to Burnley on 1 May.
Daughter and elderly father to Shillingstone, Dorset on 2 May.
Two sisters to Barrowford today, 3 May.
Family of 3 to Colne on 15 May.
Today we talked to our first potential sponsor in Northern Ireland, who is prepared to accept a mother and her 2 sons, one of whom has kidney problems, who have been very difficult to place. So if anyone is reading this from Belfast and wishes to sponsor, please get in touch with us at trawden4ukraine@hotmail.com.
