Krakow again but very different...
The absence of a blog yesterday was due to the person whose turn it was having a birthday. Prizes for correct guesses as to whose birthday. (Family not included!) It was a special day, not just because of the lovely meal and cake made by our host, but also because I had a Ukrainian birthday serenade (via WhatsApp video) from East Lancashire! Thank you.
Even though we expected it, it seemed very strange to see the square by Galeria Krakowska without the food tent, the sleeping tent and the clothes tent. We have a lot of memories from the period of March to June - of the very busy days, working at the fruit bar in the morning, seeing refugees and completing visa applications in the afternoon, and liaising with sponsors (when we had lots of them), often late into the evening... also memories of the very many people we met and the stories shared.
Today we met with one of the families, mother and son, who will be living in our house in 5 days time. We went through all the things we'll have to do in the first few days, including opening bank accounts, signing on at the job centre, and arranging school visits and uniforms, to name a few. This made us realise the responsibility and commitment that being a sponsor entails, which I have a feeling we'll learn a lot more about!
At this stage we would like to say a big thank you to our financial supporters, and our generous and kind neighbours, who have helped to make this sponsorship happen. Although we miss Lviv and are already looking forward to returning, we're also looking forward to welcoming two families to our house and lovely village. We feel so privileged that they're moving into our home.
Happy belated birthday, Fiona!! 🥳❤️ Claire was just here with her boyfriend and that is his birthday also! Congratulations for all that you have done there! I am sure you have made a big difference to many people’s lives!!
