The kindness of strangers...
in a foreign land.
It was all going so well, till it didn't. We won't go into all the boring details, but basically our rear wheel fell off.
Fortunately we realised something was wrong. So here we were, having followed a diversion, in a tiny hamlet in the middle of Ukraine. With a wheel fallen off. The bolts holding the wheel to the axel had sheered.
A total of two houses in said hamlet. So we approached a man in his 70's, confident that Google translate would come to our rescue. No signal no WiFi. Yet by a stroke of luck, a granddaughter, V, was visiting, who had some English.
During the wait, we were invited into the home. We managed to communicate as best we could. They gave us food, drink and kindness.
They then followed us to the garage. As the van could not be repaired till the morning, they offered to let us stay at their home. We had a really lovely evening together. Total strangers taken into their home.
This blog, as we are tired, doesn't do justice to everyone who helped today
These were not rich people. But people that cared. They didn't pass by. That is a richness that is priceless.
