And the bloodshed continues...
The murder of innocent civilians continues across Ukraine. 20 dead over the last 2 days. I still can't understand how one person, backed by his mafia henchmen, can get away with this. I thought there was no reason to this bombing - just indiscriminate. However, there may be a point - trying to wear down the civilian population. I don't think this will happen. The comparison I would make is with the bombing of London in the Second World War by another fascist - Hitler, as deranged as Putin. Many civilians died. But the spirit was never broken. Awful sadness back then, as there is here in Ukraine. But the spirit to fight goes on... always harder in the dark, cold days of winter.
We have been to Poland to collect an aid van. We were told, come as late as you can to collect the aid and you will have the least work to do. We arrived reasonably late.... After 3 hours of lifting and loading, the vans were full. I think, in future, we'lI will arrive at midnight!!
This aid run will be the longest we have undertaken and we are looking forward to doing the run with our Polish friends (nicknamed, "the 3 musketeers"). There is really good aid in the vans, including firemen's suits, generators and powerbanks, as well as vehicles for the military. We set off tomorrow, early.
The border crossing remains one of the most tedious aspects of the work we do. It's fraught with delays, which must be so much worse for the many people who have to wait much longer than we do, as we have the benefit of being an aid delivery vehicle, and so are allowed to miss some of the queue. Still don't like it.
We hope to spend the money raised by Trawden and others on this run. Your donations, as ever, help the people of Ukraine in this darkest of winters.
