Peace and war....
Today we had peace. I have always loved the Yorkshire Dales, each dale having its own character, beauty and wildness. Today was the gentle side. A walk by the River Wharfe at Bolton Abbey. A cold day, barely above freezing, but with the sky so blue and the air clear. A chance to feel the tranquility of the landscape. A quiet reflection of what we value and what is really important.
The week in England has passed so quickly, and we were pleased to catch up with family and friends. And yet this will all change over the next few days. We will be returning tomorrow to Krakow, and then Ukraine, a country at war. We know the area of our first aid destination is regularly shelled. War and destruction brought to a country.
The latest murderous attack by Putin and his thugs on a civilian apartment block is a war crime. Will anyone be brought to justice? Unfortunately, I doubt it.
And, maybe even more sickening than anything, is the statement made by the Russians, saying that civilian and civil structures are never targeted. Our eyes put a lie to this statement.
We go out again to make a small difference, as do many others.
And the Ukrainians continue to fight for their freedom.
You and Fiona. deserved and needed a good break. Safe journey back to UA. Our thoughts and prayers are always with you. for your safety and your work.
