Easter, or not quite?
...so as usual things are never simple. Today I got several messages from our Ukrainian friends in Lviv wishing me Happy Easter....well here in Chernihiv I passed several churches celebrating Palm Sunday. Whilst I was observing a woman came up to me and gave me a small bunch of branches with small flowers on them.... people waiting to get into the church. So next Sunday they will celebrate Easter. One country, different traditions. Will they be respected?
The morning was spent trying to build further contacts in this area. It's too early to say how they will operate in practice. It's looking more likely though, that we will be based here.
The afternoon was spent trying to get to know the city a bit better, and learn about it's history.... quite old really...first mention was about 907AD.

Finally a mention of my translator today...Dimitri. A good source of information and interesting views on the way forward for Ukraine. He gave of his time freely. Also introduced me to his favourite pub....he says that the beer was better before the war. Even more reason, if one needed one, for hating Putin.
