English lessons in Odesa

We started English teaching with children at the UNICEF tent in Odesa today - children who have been made refugees by Putin's brutal war. One boy seemed quite traumatised  - he didn't want to be involved, and wouldn't accept our gifts of trauma teddies and muesli bars at the end. But he waved goodbye when his older sister came to collect him so there may be a way in.

Mostly, the children seemed to have fun, drawing their favourite animals and then learning to sing "Old Macdonald's Farm" in English. (There is also a Ukrainian version.) We ended up with the strangest collection of farm animals, including butterflies, a giraffe and a parrot!

We have good news regarding donations - £180 has been collected from the Ukraine Box in Trawden community shop. This, plus another recent donation from a neighbour in Trawden, means that we will be able to pick up some additional aid on our way to Kherson tomorrow. We are very grateful for the continued support.

If you are able to donate, please:

1. Open PayPal and, when asked for name of payee or email, enter trawden4ukraine@hotmail.com.

Or, if you live in/near Trawden:
2. Use the Ukraine collection box in Trawden community shop.
