All going so well...
We started early on our Kherson aid run today, passing vast fields of sunflowers.
We arrived in Kherson in good time, unloading the van in the area where the distribution was going to take place.
It felt as if we were setting up a mini market.
Each apartment block has a coordinator who allocates the food on a priority basis. This can lead to the people who don't receive anything feeling quite angry and disgruntled.
However many people came to collect food and left happy.
One of the apartment blocks is some way away....it was carried as required....
With this bit of the aid run complete, with each distribution coordinator handing out what we had brought,we headed of to one of the UNICEF centres.
There we had so much fun. Initially I was shown the pictures of the homework I had set them. And they had done the homework as requested....and it was good.
We followed this with some parachute play....
Finally we shared out the face paints that we brought..they were soon used.
But as we were thinking that we'd had a really good day....of course the ying and yang of life kicked in.....
A flat tyre ..... unfortunately not repairable. Fortunately a spare, and a kind tyre place. They spent an hour trying to repair the tyre, put on our spare...(In Kherson you can't just get a new tyre) and they asked for £5. Two people trying to help us. This in 37° C heat. It was so sweet.... they brought out 2 chairs for us to sit on in the shade of a tree. The repair man pointing out that Fiona should have the comfortable chair...and so finally we returned home to Odesa. A wonderful day.
