Goodbyes....
One of the first people we bumped into, here in Ukraine, was another volunteer who, at the time, was working with the MAD organisation
(Make A Difference).
Mo did make a difference. She helped with numerous visa applications under the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship scheme: the ones that we brought to her and others she was dealing with. She always did this with good humour, as we often struggled with the IT, and she often had to help us. Probably thought, daft old codgers. But I think we worked well together. And she has a wonderful, caring nature.
Today, some 12 months later we had brunch with her. She is now returning to England, having secured a post helping with housing opportunities for Ukrainians who came on the Homes for Ukraine sponsorship scheme.
We will be sad to see her go. She is half our age, with boundless energy. I hope she enjoys her new opportunities. But, secretly, I hope she comes back here.
Also Alex, another one that makes a difference, is going. Another loss.
We have met individuals here, and small organisations, who have passion and an ability to make a difference. Ukrainians and other nationalities, who believe we have to fight against a thug who thinks he can take what he wants.
It's not easy. Never was going to be.
